The Siam - Burma Railway Revisited

Date: June 1948

These photographs were taken by my father, Harold Helps, following an extraordinary and difficult chapter of his life. He was a prisoner of war, forced to work on the railway, and before the war - and later again - he worked for Fraser & Neave in Singapore

The images have been carefully scanned from his original album. Alongside them is a typed transcript of a letter he wrote in pencil and sent home at the war's end - a rare and personal glimpse into that moment in history.
